Amandine Black ranunculus corms bloom in a deep saturated burgundy so dark it reads almost black in certain lights — layered intentionally in a garden bed or flower arrangement, it makes pastels pop, adding depth and dimension. 
 
Ranunculus corms (Ranunculus asiaticus) are ruffled and romantic, resembling a small peony or garden rose. Widely used by floral designers, they look brilliant in arrangements and hold an incredible vase life of 7+ days, with a continuous blooming period of about six weeks. Simply a must for any cutting garden.
 
Planting ranunculus corms
Soak corms 3–4 hours before planting — no longer, as extended soaking invites rot. Plant claws down, 2 inches deep and 6–9 inches apart, in full sun and well-drained soil. Containers work well if drainage is good.
 
When to plant: Ranunculus are hardy in the South (Zones 8–11) and can be planted directly into the ground or a container in fall for spring blooms. In colder climates (Zones 4–7), plant in spring for early summer blooms. Though technically a perennial, they do best treated as an annual and replanted each year. We grow ours in coastal North Carolina, Zone 8b.
